In this 2,5h pottery class on the wheel you will get a feeling for the clay between your hands and can try out whether you would like to continue working with this wonderful material. You will get an insight into the individual steps on the pottery wheel that are necessary to make a small vessel or two or three …

  • Preparing the clay, wedging

  • centering the clay on the wheel

  • Pulling up the clay “walls”

Material and firing costs for 3 of your pieces are included in the class fee.

If you decide to keep additional pieces, we charge 3,- per piece for both firings.

We glaze your pieces with the glaze of your choice. There are 12 glazes to choose from.

Glazing service: 7,- per piece

After about 6 weeks your pieces are usually finished. We will inform you by email when they are ready for pick-up.

Who is this class suitable for?

No previous experience is required. This class is perfect for beginners who want to get a feeling for the clay on the wheel.

Our wheel classes are designed for adults, young people from the age of 14 are welcome.

Who is teaching?

Your teacher is Ella Brew Stewart, Tara or Sharman Riegger, according to your choice.

Ella Brew (they/them) is a multimedia artist interested in the joy and empowerment that comes from learning new skills and creating functional objects. Brew enjoys combining wheel-thrown pieces with handbuilding techniques, designing tableware, and experimenting with new processes. They are endlessly amazed by the various worlds the field of ceramics contains.

Tara (she/her), aka Tara Tay Clay, is a trained psychologist specialized in learning and personal development. After creative explorations in the field of drawing and painting, she dedicated herself to the world of ceramics. She loves exploring new techniques with clay and reinventing classical shapes. It is her desire to awaken a passion for pottery in others and to accompany them on their way to their own learning successes.

Sharman (he/his) is co-founder and one of the owners of Clayers Collective. Before studying art, he completed an apprenticeship as a potter for three years with Uwe Löllmann, where he intensively studied Japanese wood-firing techniques. Various stays in Japan have shaped his understanding of ceramics and arts and crafts.

The class is held in German and / or English, depending on the needs of the participants. Ella Brew’s classes will be held in English.

Up to 14 days before the first class starts, the course fee is 100 % refundable.

Up to 10 days before the first class date, the course can be rebooked for another course if the participant is unable to attend. If there is no suitable offer among the currently available courses, we will issue a voucher for a future booking.

If less than 10 days before the first course date, the course place can be transferred to another person. The contact details of the new course participant must be given to us in writing in advance. The above conditions still apply.
