Do you want to learn hand building techniques?
Our 4-week pottery course on hand-building techniques is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to slow down and completely relax while their hands create the most beautiful things. In this intensive course you will learn the essential techniques that will give you the foundation to create any shape imaginable: pinch bowl technique, slab building and coiling technique. At the end, you will glaze all your pieces. Perhaps the beginning of an exciting journey into the world of ceramic craft or a wonderful opportunity to refresh or deepen your knowledge.

What can you expect from this course?

Introduction to ceramic processes
Learning three different hand-building techniques
Surface Design & Glazing Techniques
Individual support in an intimate group setting (3–6 participants)
materials and kiln firings for 6 pieces included (if you decide to keep additional pieces, we charge 7,-€ per piece for the firings)
Create pieces up to 20 cm in size on each side
1st session - Saturday 14.11. 11:00-13:30
Introduction to ceramic processes and learning the pinch pots technique.
2nd session - Saturday 21.11. 11:00-13:30
Introduction to the coiling technique, the ideal method to create larger objects
3rd session - Saturday 28.11. 11:00-13:30
learning the slab building technique
decorating techniques such as texturing or stamping
how to join different clay parts.
4th session - Saturday 12.12. 11:00-13:30
Glaze all your pieces using different techniques such as dipping, brushing or pouring over. There are 12 studio glazes to choose from.

After the 3rd session, we will fire your pieces for the first time once they are dry, so you can glaze them in the 4th session. They will then be fired again.
After approximately 2-4 weeks, your creations will generally be ready. We will inform you by email when they are available for pickup. We are doing our best to finish all the pieces from this course before Christmas.

Who is this course suitable for?
No previous experience is required. This course is perfect for beginners or for someone who has already gained some experience with clay and would like to deepen it.

Who is teaching?
Your teacher is Chiu Ching Man. She studied Visual Arts (BA) in Hong Kong and specialised in ceramics. She is particularly fascinated by handbuilding techniques. This artistic process gives her time and space to approach her idea layer by layer. Handbuilding techniques allow for endless experimentation, which she is passionate about, because it often leads to unexpected results.

Up to 21 days before the first course date, we will refund the course fee fully minus a processing fee of €15.00.
Up to 14 days before the first course date, the course can be rebooked for another course if the participant is unable to attend. If there is no suitable offer among the currently available courses, we will issue a voucher for a future booking.
If less than 14 days before the first course date, the course place can be transferred to another person. The contact details of the new course participant must be given to us in writing in advance. The above conditions still apply.
