Do you want to learn hand building techniques?

In this 4-week intensive pottery course you will learn the basic techniques that will give you the foundation to create any form you can imagine. Perhaps the beginning of an exciting journey into the world of ceramics making or a wonderful opportunity to refresh or deepen your skills.

What can you expect from this course?

1st session: Introduction to ceramic processes and learning the pinch pots technique.

2nd session: Introduction to the coiling technique, the ideal method to create larger objects

3rd session: learning the slab building technique

4th session: Glaze all your pieces using different techniques such as dipping, brushing or pouring over. There are 12 studio glazes to choose from.

You will also learn decorating techniques such as texturing or stamping and how to join different clay parts.

Material and firing costs for 6 of your pieces are included in the course fee. If you decide to keep additional pieces, we charge 7,-€ per piece for the firings.

Please note that we will skip one week before the glazing class to fire all your pieces. There will also be a break after the second date for organisational reasons. Please also note that the time of the first appointment is different to the others.

Who is this course suitable for?

No previous experience is required. This course is perfect for beginners or for someone who has already gained some experience with clay and would like to deepen it.

Who is teaching?

Your teacher is Chiu Ching Man. She studied Visual Arts (BA) in Hong Kong and specialised in ceramics. She is particularly fascinated by handbuilding techniques. This artistic process gives her time and space to approach her idea layer by layer. Handbuilding techniques allow for endless experimentation, which she is passionate about, because it often leads to unexpected results.

Up to 10 days before the first course date, the course can be rebooked for another course if the participant is unable to attend. If there is no suitable offer among the currently available courses, we will issue a voucher for a future booking.
