Shape with your hands! Create Sculptural Objects with texture.
Join us for a unique pottery course where creativity meets craftsmanship. Over four inspiring sessions, you’ll work with experienced ceramic artist Sandra Nielen to design and sculpt clay objects that reflect your personal vision. Using intuitive hand-building techniques, you’ll create your own unique pieces step by step.
Unleash your imagination and explore the creative process of sculpting. You’ll be guided to make artistic choices and bring them to life through carving, texturing, and glazing - expressing form, structure, and color in your own style.
With a variety of tools, you’ll design textured surfaces and give your pieces a distinct character. Whether sculptural, playful, or functional - there are no limits to your creativity!

Explore textures, patterns, and carving to bring your ideas to life
Learn how to design unique surfaces and experiment with glazing
Individual support in an intimate group setting (3–6 participants)
All materials and kiln firings included
Create pieces up to 20 cm in size on each side

Inspiration through books, images & initial ideas
Overview of hand-building techniques
Turning ideas into clay, modeling and shaping (slab technique)

2. Session - 2,5h:
Saturday 31.05. >> 11:00-13:30
Continue developing your own projects
Deepen your understanding of techniques
Learn texture and carving methods
Surface design of the created pieces
Start a second project

3. Session - 2,5h:
Saturday 07.06. >> 11:00-13:30
Finalizing Projects
If time permits, start a 3rd project
Prepare your work for the first kiln firing
4. Session - 2,5h:
Saturday 21.06. >> 11:00-13:30
Introduction to glazing methods
Glazing the created works
Final group reflection
After the 3rd session, we will fire your pieces for the first time once they are dry, so you can glaze them in the 4th session. They will then be fired again.
After approximately 2-4 weeks, your creations will generally be ready. We will inform you by email when they are available for pickup.

Who is this course for?
No prior knowledge is required. This course is perfect for beginners or anyone who has already gained some experience with clay and wants to deepen their skills.
Minimum age: 14 years (if unaccompanied)

Who is teaching this course?
Sandra Nielen (she/her), born in the Netherlands, studied Product Design at The Hague. After working as a freelance designer and furniture maker for over 10 years, she decided to work more freely with ceramics. She now creates sculptures with her hands, inspired by architectural and natural structures, patterns, and textures. These often result in non-figurative, non-functional objects. Sandra lives and works in Berlin.
