You are passionate about making pottery on the wheel and would like to deepen your throwing skills?

This 5-week wheel throwing pottery course is for anyone who has already participated in the Beginners Wheel course or a comparable several-week pottery course. During this course you will have plenty of time to continue practicing and step by step to gain more influence on the created shapes, may they be higher, wider or smaller vessels. Among other things, you will learn to close a cylinder to throw a vase, for example. Your needs and wishes can be taken care of during the course.

Course Content:

  • Preparing the clay, wedging

  • Centering different amounts of clay on the wheel

  • additional hand positions for throwing different shapes

  • different ways of mounting the vessel on the wheel for the trimming process

  • optional: handle making, decorating / carving and mounting of leather-hard pieces

  • glazing of all pieces in the last session

Material and firing costs are included in the course fee.

Wednesday course: 15.01., 22.01., 29.01., 05.02., 19.02. >> 18:00 - 20:30 with Sharman (sold)

March / April:

Wednesday course: 05.03., 12.03., 19.03., 26.03., 09.04. >> 18:00 - 20:30 with Sharman (3 spots available)

Please note that we will skip one weeks before the glazing class to fire all your pieces.

Who is this course suitable for?

It is required that you have already done a longer course (e.g. Beginners Wheel) and feel comfortable with smaller amounts of clay. What you can learn in this course will depend on the skills you have already acquired. If you are not quite as confident yet and just want to keep on practicing throwing under guidance, you can do that in this course as well.

Who is teaching?

Your teacher is Sharman Riegger.

Sharman Riegger (he/his) is co-founder and one of the owners of Clayers Collective. Before studying art, he completed an apprenticeship as a potter for three years with Uwe Löllmann, where he intensively studied Japanese wood-firing techniques. Various stays in Japan have shaped his understanding of ceramics and arts and crafts.

The course is held in German and / or English, depending on the needs of the participants.

Up to 14 days before the first class starts, the course fee is 100 % refundable.

Up to 10 days before the first class date, the course can be rebooked for another course if the participant is unable to attend. If there is no suitable offer among the currently available courses, we will issue a voucher for a future booking.

If less than 10 days before the first course date, the course place can be transferred to another person. The contact details of the new course participant must be given to us in writing in advance. The above conditions still apply.
