Give your ceramics that certain something! Design with textures and structures.

In this special pottery course with 2 sessions, you will model clay objects using hand-building techniques. Under the guidance of experienced ceramist Antonia Maria Joubert, you can let your imagination run free and model any shape you want with your hands. You will then use various materials and tools to design their surface. Textures make ceramic pieces distinctive and unique. The result can be a bowl, a candle holder, a mug, a vase or whatever comes to your mind.

The course consists of 2 sessions (7 hours in total)

What can you expect from this course?

1. session - 4h:

Saturday 09.11. >> 11:00-15:00

  • Introduction to ceramic processes, the path of the clay during ceramic production

  • You will make a small sketch of your idea

  • Modelling and designing ideas with clay (slab building technique)

  • Connecting different clay parts

.

2. session - 3h:

Sunday 10.11. >> 15:00-18:00

  • Surface design of the pieces created

  • Use of different materials and tools (stones, shells, wooden objects) to create different structures

  • Decorating pieces with engobes

  • Brief introduction to glazes

.

After the workshop, we will fire your pieces for the first time as soon as they are dry and then (if desired) glaze them transparently.

Your creations are usually ready after approx. 6 weeks. We will inform you by e-mail when they are ready for collection. For this course, we guarantee your pieces will be finished by 19.12.24 in case you want to make Christmas presents.

Material and firing costs are included in the course fee. The objects should not be larger than 20 cm in any direction.

Minimum number: 4 participants (maximum is 6)

Booking information: You can book as many places as are available. If you are not able to book more than one place, there is usually only one place left to book. It happens from time to time that someone cancels their booking. So check back every now and then if your preferred class is fully booked.

Who is this course suitable for?

No previous experience is required. This course is perfect for beginners or for someone who has already gained some experience with clay and would like to deepen it.

Who is teaching?

Antonia (she/her) is a ceramicist and founder of antonia maria • studio. After studying interior design in Nantes, France, she completed an apprenticeship as a ceramist. Her considered approach to local materials was inspired by an internship at Atelier Joaquim Pombal in Porto, Portugal. This experience reinforced her passion for teaching the different aspects of the craft. Antonia lives and works in Berlin.

The class is held in German and / or English, depending on the needs of the participants.
